Eco-Friendly Packaging | Sustainable Blog Edition #17

Sustainable Blog Edition #17.

It’s no shock that plastic is bad for the environment. However, hearing the numbers can still be staggering. In 2009 the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) released data that found that 42% of emissions from the U.S. alone are associated with the energy used to produce, process, transport, and dispose of food and goods.  Crazy, right? This is where eco-friendly packaging comes in to help out.

By using alternative methods to plastic such as corrugated, paper or glass material, the consumption of greenhouse gas emissions and energy use is notably less.

There are a few other key benefits as well! Eco-friendly packaging is easier to process, so labor and material costs are reduced. Because of recyclability, they are less expensive to move and dispose of. Not to mention they are often reusable and/or compostable! Eco-friendly packaging tends to be more durable, which is great for the products they carry. When they are being transported, they tend to be lighter which makes the distribution efficient and $$$ saving as well.

As you can see, eco-friendly packaging is beneficial to the environment, consumers, AND companies! Talk about a win-win-win.
