NYC's Best Sustainable Restaurants for Summer 2021 | Sustainable Blog Edition #5

Sustainable Blog Edition #5. 7.5.21 - 9:11AM

With this summer at an all time high, it makes us realize that climate change is affecting our everyday lives. However, it’s never too late to start making eco-friendly decisions.

A small change like the clothes you order, food you eat, and restaurants you choose to bring business to can make all the difference.

Here are our 3 favorite sustainable restaurants in NYC:

  1. Lighthouse—145 Borinquen Place, Brooklyn, NY 11211

Lighthouse was created with wellness in mind. They recycle, com, post, and use locally sourced ingredients. However, Lighthouse goes above and beyond the sustainable trends by partnering with local green-minded organizations. One organization in particular is the Billion Oyster Project, instead of throwing out their oyster shells they’re collected weekly to be left at a curing site to ensure they become clean enough to re-enter New York Harbor. But that’s not all, their happy hour deals goes beyond $1 oysters— it includes a special deal on whatever wine bottles have been opened to ensure that every last drop is used.

If you don’t have time to check out their Brooklyn location, feel free to check out their Lighthouse Outpost in Nolita!

  1. Rosella— 137 Ave A, New York, NY 10009

Rosella might not have been intended to be an environmentally friendly place, but they’re now focused on serving sustainable seafood. While the owners refuse to serve products that are destructive to the environment, it has only opened up new flavors to their restaurant. By sourcing all of their ingredients locally, they ensure that their fish or shellfish has been approved by Seafood Watch or NOAA prior to appearing on their menu. As a result, they’re ensuring a happy belly along with a happy seafloor.

Enjoy a nice meal on their A La Carte or Tasting Menu soon because you simply can’t go wrong with either!

  1. ABC Kitchen—35 East 19th St, New York, NY 10003

ABC Kitchen and Michelin star Jean-George team up to reflect their passionate commitment to the farm-to-table movement. The restaurant’s menu is forever changing while focusing on local, sustainable, seasonal produce that do not use pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, insecticides, or GMOs. All of their meat, fish, and dairy are sourced naturally and humanely from regional farmers.

Come and dine at ABC Kitchen to support the future of the slow food movement!
